Driver's License for People with physical impairments

On the Website of TÜV-Süd (in German) you can find a lot of useful information on how to attain a driver's license, the driver's exam and converting vehicles.

On the information site MPU  you can find everything you need to know about attaining a driver's license with a neurological disease (site only in German).

At EnableMe (formerly MyHandicap) you can find information and chatrooms on drivers' licenses and possibilities on how to convert vehicles.

Financial Aid to buy and convert vehicles

Especially in rural regions having a driver’s license, owning a vehicle and converting this vehicle to suit ones individual needs may be necessary to having a work life or being able to study. You can apply for financial aid at different institutions (Berufsgenossenschaft, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of State Welfare and Department of Social Services). On the sites of Rehadat.de and Rehadat vehicle adaptation (in German) you can find extensive information on these topics.

Transportation for disabled and sick people

A lot of local authorities (mostly social services) offer transportation for people with disabilities and ambulance service. Because these offers and agreements to cover costs vary regionally, please ask your local authorities.
Apart from that local providers and Taxi companies offer vehicles for wheelchairs. Please ask providers directly as they don't always advertise this fact.
The costs of an ambulance service may partially be covered by your health insurance. Please ask your insurance for more detail.
